Ezra Pound: Alba

(Photo: Franz Larese from here)

So, Ezra Pound’s birthday today. He would have been . . . never mind, I don’t feel like doing the math. He was a little crazy, no doubt about it. Probably even a lot crazy. But still.

As cool as the pale wet leaves
                                       of lily-of-the-valley
She lay beside me in the dawn.

Salutation –Ezra Pound

Here’s a little poem by Pound I like.

O generation of the thoroughly smug
and thoroughly uncomfortable,
I have seen fishermen picnicking in the sun,
I have seen them with untidy families,
I have seen their smiles full of teeth
and heard ungainly laughter.
And I am happier than you are,
And they were happier than I am;
And the fish swim in the lake
and do not even own clothing.
